Research Center for Medicinal Plants

Numerous bioactive secondary metabolites of plants are used various industries like pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, folk medicine, food flavoring, and preservation as well as in food industries. Iran has a long medicinal tradition and traditional learning of plant remedies. Medicinal plants are an important element of medical system. These resources are usually regarded as part of cultural traditional knowledge.

The Research Center for Medicinal Plants was founded in faculty of Agriculture, Islamic Azad University, Shahr-e-Qods Branch, Tehran in 2015. This center was established to achieve advancement in the availability and application of medicinal and aromatic plants, domestication and cultivation of Iranian medicinal and aromatic plants, identification of the active compounds of plant extracts and essential oils with their biological and pharmacological activities, study on various factors effects including genetic, environmental, management, and their interaction on growth, and quantity and quality of secondary metabolites of medicinal and aromatic plants.
